The Rotary program for Thursday, December 20th will be presented by our own PDG Jim Nelson. Jim traveled tp Peru, South America in July on a medical mission. While in Peru, he met with three local Rotary Clubs in the city of Iquitos. Iquitos is the largest city in the world that is not accessible by automobile. You fly in or come via boat on the Amazon River. Jim flew in!
While there, Jim presented a program to the Peruvians about our District's Friendship Exchange program. The Peruvians were excited and then spoke with Jim about a Global Grant opportunity. Our board has agreed to help with the project but wanted our membership to see what the Grant is all about. Please join us to hear about Jim's travels, adventure and the Global Grant.
You may want to ask Jim about hotel rates in Iquitos, fishing in the Amazon, or falling of a flat bottom boat gangplank into the Amazon.
Jim has been a member of Rockford Rotary since May of 2010 but has been a Rotarian since March 3, 1983. He was President of Dixon Rotary in 1999/2000 and District Governor in 2015/16. He has traveled to both Nigeria and Pakistan to immunize children against Polio. He is a Paul Harris plus 7 Fellow and his wife, daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren are Paul Harris Fellows. He has travelled extensively with and for Rotary, most recently Peru and the year before he was building toilets for 2 schools in the Costa Rican rainforest.
This will be an interesting and informative program about one of Rotary's projects. It will also be an opportunity to bring a guest or prospective member. District Governor Kathy will introduce Jim and act as Rotary host. Mark your calendar and make an effort to come and support Jim.
