June 25th Meeting Recap
Our own Tanner Elliott was the presenter at our June 25th meeting. He talked about how service has guided his young life so far through scouting and through various organizations that he has worked with. He spent a lot of his time talking about how at 14 a friend who was confined to a wheelchair was not able to watch football and soccer games at Harlem High School stadium. So, Tanner began an Eagle Scout project to build a ramp and viewing area in the grandstand. He originally thought it would be a year or so project, but it turned out to be a 4-year project and cost $40,000. He raised most of the money himself and also received some monetary help from the Harlem School District. He managed to complete the project and get his Eagle Scout paperwork done 2 days before his 18th birthday which is the deadline for an Eagle Scout project.
He shared with us that the end of the project was not the end of the benefit for him. He recently received a photo that showed some grandparents were able to watch their grandson play for the first time.
Thank you, Tanner, for an interesting and moving presentation.
