YWCA Programs Since 1891, YWCA Northwestern Illinois has upheld an unwavering dedication to the mission, “eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We continuously adjust to the emerging needs of the six counties we serve: Boone, Jo Daviess, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago. In 2010, we were the recipient of the Rockford Register Star’s Excelsior Award; in 2013, we were honored for excellence in racial justice programming by YWCA USA, and in 2022 was awarded the Eagle Award for Social Justice by Rock Valley College. Lisa Bock serves as the Director of the Child Care Resource & Referral program at YWCA Northwestern Illinois, where she oversees both the Child Care Assistance Program and the Provider Services Department. With over 21 years of dedicated service to the organization, Lisa brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for empowering her team and supporting their professional growth. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sociology from Northern Illinois University and remains actively engaged in the community through various committees. Lisa has also served for six years on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA), including its Personnel Committee. In addition, she plays a key role in administering a United Way literacy grant, collaborating with child care providers to promote early childhood literacy and development. Lisa is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the lives of children, families, and early childhood professionals. Her passion lies in building strong community connections and fostering an environment where others feel supported, valued, and inspired to grow. She believes that when people are empowered, entire communities thrive. Diego Valdivia is the Director of Immigrant Services at the YWCA Northwestern Illinois; a role he embraces passionately to serve the diverse population in the northern Illinois community. He attended St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas and eventually returned to Rockford, where he has resided for the past 13 years. Having the personal experiences as a new immigrant, Diego's journey led him to pursue a career in human services with YWCA Northwestern Illinois, where he has dedicated himself to empowering immigrants and advocating for their needs. Prior to joining the YWCA, Diego spent five years at the Rockford Housing Authority. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Rockford Promise, demonstrating his dedication to educational opportunities for local youth. Additionally, Diego chairs the Scholarship Selection Committee, underscoring his belief in the transformative power of education. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Crusader Community Health where he is also chair of the Governance committee and part of the Quality and Operations Committee. Diego has often volunteered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and mobile food pantries. Food access and security has always been a priority for him as he understands the importance of having this basic human need fulfilled. With a blend of personal experience and professional expertise, Diego Valdivia is a driving force for social change and empowerment in Rockford, Illinois. Lisa and Diego will discuss some of the many programs that the YWCA is involved with including Immigration and Child Care programs. This will be an interesting and informative program and one that you will want to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.
