The January 16th meeting is set aside for Committee meetings.  Committee chairs will contact their members to remind them of the meeting.  If you are not assigned to a specific committee, feel freee to join usfor lunch and sit in on a committee meeting.

 

     Many members and guests gathered on January 16th at the U Club for fellowship and in most cases, dinner.  As you can see from the pictures below, a good time was had by all.

 

 

 

     Samir Romero joined Rockford Rotary on October 4, 2024.  Since he will be giving a "Vocational Talk", we won't give you any more details about his life so you will just have to show up on the 23rd and find out for yourself.

     These talks are always interesting, informative, and entertaining.  We would encourage you to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom (836 8113 5120 and no password required).

     Elise Cadigan will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary host.

 

     Our January 9th meeting featured Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara giving his annual presentation to Rockford Rotary.

     We learned about how the money from the Hard Rock Casino has been spent and a whole lot of other statistics.  The one thing that has not changed is the number of domestic violence calls that the police respond to each year.  More than half of all calls to 911 are for domestic violence.  We also heard about a few of the weird calls to 911 like someone wanted the first responders to get them a soda from a table.  The city keeps track of the 911 calls and they are trying to educate the super users on the proper use of the 911 system.

     The mayor reminded us that the general election is April 1, 2025.  He is running for a third term and if he is re-elected, it will be his last term as mayor.  His children are 8 and 9 and he does not want to be mayor while they are in high school and he hopes to find some other career opportunities.

     It was an informative and interesting program and we thank Mayor McNamara for his time.

 

     A gentle reminder that you please pay for your lunch, $150 for December, January, and February. You can pay by credit card or send a check to our treasurer, Monica Glenny. If you bring your own lunch, you can opt out by not paying the $150.00. I just want to thank all the members who donated $ for the Homeless.  We raised $100 which was used to buy sleeping bags.  Thank you for your generosity.

 

Liz Bockman of Every Day Etiquette sent a Christmas greeting to our club.  She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and thanked the club for the opportunity to work with our Academy students for another year.  She indicated that the kids were a great group and she is looking forward to working with us next year.
