Order of the Shelf

Our annual tradition of the "Order of the Shelf" will continue this year with Roast Master Paul Logli leading the festivities as we "welcome" Mike Forman as our 2024-25 President. This should be a fun meeting because Paul and his gang will be using material that they dug up on the Internet. Please join us for the fun in person at Memorial Hall or via zoom.

Disclaimer: The editor and staff of the COG have not verified that Paul Logli will be the Roast Master this year, because we are getting lazy in our old age, so we just copied last year's article.

President's Message

This is my last Presidents message.

Thank-you to everyone for your support and help over the past year, I believe that our club is headed towards becoming stronger and more vibrant. Thank-you to Kathy Kwiat-Hess, Tyler Smith, Frank Buchman, and Lynn Momberger for your service as a Board of Director for our club. Thank-you to all the committee chairpersons for leading your committees to help make our club stronger. I especially want to THANK my wife Becky for helping and supporting over the past year.

I would like to welcome to the Board of Directors: John Mecklenburg, Becky Rundquist, Mary Maxted, and Steve Malliet for 2-year terms and John Torrance to fill a 1-year seat. Over the summer a committee will work on revising-updating the current Bylaws and bring the changes to the membership in the fall. We also plan to continue the lunch program next year.

Please give our next President Mike Foreman the help and support you have shown me over the past year.

Youth Exchange - Host Families Needed

Rockford Rotary Youth Exchange – Need Host Families

The main purpose of Rotary Youth Exchange is to help inspire young leaders to become international ambassadors to serve as catalysts for peace and social justice in their local communities and throughout the world, long after their exchanges end.

We now have confirmation of who our Rotary Youth Exchange student is for academic year 2024/25. Timeo Paolo Gimbals is a boy from Belgium. He will be a senior. His native language is French, but he does speak and read English. He was rated fair in speaking and good in reading. He is passionate about science and the animal world and plans to study veterinary medicine after his exchange year. He also plays basketball, is a runner and plays the piano and drums.

Rotary works with the students to obtain their student Visas from the State Dept. before purchasing the roundtrip ticket for their year abroad. Rotary also requires every exchange student to purchase a specific health insurance policy that Rotary specifies. Rotary also provides host families and the exchange students with training to help develop an excellent relationship that will last a lifetime.

We are looking for host families that live in the Rockford School District as RPS205 is willing to be the host school at any one of the four RPS205 high schools. If you know someone that might be interested, please contact

Ruth Little Recovering

Ruth Litte and Suzanne Berger

Ruth Little, a 35-year member of Rockford Rotary, has had a couple of medical setbacks recently and has not been able to attend our Thursday meetings.

Suzanne Berger visited with her recently and said that she could use a little cheering up with cards or phone calls or e-mails.

Rotary Lunches

Starting with our September 7th meeting, we will be having lunches at our noon meetings. We will be starting with a package from Beef-A-Roo. It will consist of a Wrap, salad, chips, cookie, and a soda or water. There will bea variety of meats in the wraps. This is a work in progress and things may change. Lunches will start on September 7, 2023 and will be available at 11:45 AM the day of the meeting.

PLEASE. If you plan to bring a guest, PLEASE let us know 3 days in advance so we can make arrangements for food. It will be your responsibility to cover the cost at $12.50 per meal.
