Brovary Ukraine Teens Visit

In observance of Veteran's Day on November 11th, Bob Canfield will give a special invocation.

Last summer, a group of teens from our Sister City, Brovary in the Ukraine, visited our community.  Trisha Tousant and Tamica Fricks will share the behind-the-scenes story of how the Rockford community showed up to host the Ukrainian teens.
Trisha Tousant has been engaged in the Y movement for 23 years. Moving to the region in 2011, she brought her passion for the Y mission and service to others, as well as her expertise in program and leadership development.
She currently serves as the COO at the YMCA or Rock River Valley and as a volunteer in organizations throughout the region.
Tamica Fricks serves Rockford's youth as the Teen Director at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. She is a native of Rockford and has served at the YMCA for over 8 years.
Tamica's passion for helping our youth reach their goals and fulfill their potential is evident in her work not only at the Y, but also as founder of the Kendel Sherman Foundation.
This will be an interesting and informative program and one you will want to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person or via Zoom.  Mike Foreman will introduce our speakers and act as Rotary host.

Mid-term Election Analysis and Implications

As is our tradition, we have invited Dr. Ron Lee, who is the Chair of the Political Science Department at Rockford University, to give us his analysis of the Mid-term election and some of the implications we might expect.
Dr. Ron Lee is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Rockford University where he has taught for more that 15 years.  He has also taught at Keith Country Day School for more than 20 years.
Ron received his BA in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 1991.  He received his MA in Political Science (Specialization": Political Theory with a Concentration in Classics) from Boston College in 1993.  In 1998, he was awarded his Ph.D in Political Science from Boston College.
Ron also has a Rotary connection.  He was a member of the District 6420 team to Germany.  Also on that team was Abbie Reese who is an author and film maker.
This will be a great chance to invite friends or prospective members to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.  Dr, Eric Fulcomer will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary.  This will most likely be your last chance to say goodbye to Dr. Fulcomer who will be moving to Madison for his next career opportunity.

Tinker Tour
Tinker Tour

On Friday, October 21st, a number of Rockford Rotarians and guests were given a tour of Tinker Swiss Cottage by the Executive Director, Samantha Hochmann, who was in a period costume because she had been interviewed earlier.  It was an interesting and very informative tour and we learned a lot about Rockford history.  Afterwards we had lunch and conversation at Ernie's Midtown Pub on 5th Avenue.
