June 6th Meeting

Rotary Youth Exchange

Ciara Stahly may be young, but she has been around Rotary for a long time.  She started her Rotary journey as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student in Sweden in 2011-2012.  Developing an immediate passion for the Youth Exchange Program, she became a volunteer for the program immediately upon her return to the area.  She served as a Youth Exchange Volunteer from 2012 to 2017.
She became an official member of Loves Park Rotary in 2017, where she served as Secretary for Rotary years 2018-2019 and 2020-2022.  She served as President of Loves Park Rotary in 2019-2020.  She then went on to become the Youth Exchange Officer for Loves Park from 2018 to 2022.
Ciara became the District 6420 Outbound Coordinator for Youth Exchange in 2022 and continues to be in that position.  This year she and her husband, Noah, have been host parents to the Loves Park Youth Exchange student, Sofie, who is from Denmark.
Ciara also served District 6420 this year as the District Conference Chair for DG Dave Emerick.  She is also serving as the District Conference Chair for next year’s conference hosted by DGE John Hurley.
Ciara also is involved at The Laurent House by Frank Lloyd Wright, serving as a Board Member and Secretary.  She also is involved with the Association of Fundraising Professionals both as a Board Member and Secretary.
Ciara works at Community Foundation of Northern Illinois where she is currently the Assistant Development Director.  She has been there since 2018.  She has been married to Noah since 2018.  She grew up in Hammond, IN, and attended Rockford University where she studied Psychology.
Ciara will speak to the club about Rotary Youth Exchange.
This will be an interesting and informative program, especially for our newer members and our members who have been around but forgot about the Youth Exchange program.  This will be a chance to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via zoom.
PDG Kathy Kwiat-Hess will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary Host.

June 13th Program

The Norwegian - Starting a New Business

Emily Hurd is the owner and operator of The Norwegian, a restaurant in Rockford's North End. She renovated her building at 1402 N Main Street for 3 years before opening her restaurant just prior to COVID, which she navigated by turning her space into a temporary indoor market.
When not at the restaurant, she is a mother, a wife, and a singer-songwriter that has released 19 full-length studio albums of original songs.  Her tunes have appeared on television's NCIS, 90210, The Good Wife, Melrose Place, and Life Unexpected.
Emily will talk about the problems of starting a business in Rockford and trying to operate during COVID.  This will be an interesting program and one to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.
Doug Mark will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary Host.

President's Message

President's Message

PLEASE don’t forget to pay your Rotary Club dues invoice that came out on May 1, 2024. If you cannot find the email – please check your club runner account. You may pay half ($155.00) now and the other half in November if you would like. It is important that we collect the Dues invoice money before July and January each year so that we may pay our Rotary International dues.

A big THANK-YOU to Tyler Smith for developing a QR code for our club, it takes you to our web site. We are looking for someone to revamp and improve our web site, any volunteers? I will be sending out a link to the QR code later this week.

Bob Pressman will be giving a short Polio Presentation and a chance ($10.00) for a special Basketball at Thursday’s meeting.

Summer "Save the Date" July 18th for a summer meeting/party at noon for Chama as she will be leaving to go back home on the 20th.

Also, we will have a social event at the Rivets game that night (7/18) with other Rotary clubs from the area.

We are also signed up to be greeters at City market on Aug 23rd so please save the date- we need 15-20 volunteers the day to greet people at the market.

Weekly RI Foundation Message

Each week we will be publishing a message from the Rotary International Foundation.  This week's message is:

WHAT’S THE LAST DAY OF THE YEAR TO DONATE TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION?

Every year, 30 June is the last day for donations to be counted toward the final annual giving total for you and your club. We encourage you to make your year-end contributions early to be sure that your gifts are processed in time.

Remember, every contribution made to the Annual Fund-SHARE by 30 June means that your club and district will have more grant funding available in the years ahead.

Make a contribution today to ensure that your club can make a difference in the world in the future!
