April 4th Meeting

Plans for the Future

Steve Stadelman is an award-winning TV news anchor and father of four who ran for a seat in the Illinois Senate because his experiences as a journalist and parent convinced him of the need for fresh, common-sense representation in Springfield. Citizens in the Rockford-based 34th District elected him with 64 percent of the vote in 2012, and his public policy achievements have twice since earned him recognition as Legislator of the Year.
In his freshman year Stadleman passed a bill to upgrade local sports facilities after first resolving a longstanding disagreement between the Rockford Park District and local union leaders over responsible bidding practices.  Subsequent efforts protected consumers, patients, abuse victims and students.  In 2019, Stadleman prevailed on two key economic initiatives that had been stalled for years:  He co-sponsored and helped pass legislation to allow a casino in Rockford and secured $275 million toward development of passenger rail service between Chicago and Rockford.
As 2023 drew to a close, Big Three automaker Stellantis announced a nearly $5 billion investment to reopen and expand its Belvidere Assembly Plant, made possible in part by legislation Stadelman introduced and passed to provide incentives for development of the electric vehicle industry in Illinois.
Steve will discuss some of the problems facing Illinois and what the future holds as far as State government is concerned.  Another interesting and informative program to invite a guest or prospective member to join us in person at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.  Mary Ann Norwood will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary Host.

3 New Members
President Pete/Easter Bunny introduced two new members of Rockford Rotary.

Brian Martin (left) is a Sergeant with the Loves Park Police Department.  Brian was sponsored by President-Elect Mike Forman.
Tom Huber (middle) is retired and is sponsored by Linda Niemiec. He was previously a member of the Ripon (WI) Rotary Club.
And of course, the Easter Bunny needs no introduction.

Our third new member is Pam Iacullo (left) who is a member of our Wesley Willows Satellite Club.  Pam is retired and was a Special Education teacher from Schaumburg.  She is sponsored by Patty Bigger (right) who has taken over the leadership duties of the Satellite club from Dick Leighton.

Welcome to Brian, Tom, and Pam to Rockford Rotary and we would encourage our members to welcome them to our club when you meet them.

Each week we will be publishing a message from the Rotary International Foundation.  This week's message is:

WHAT WORDS FROM A VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAM PARTICIPANT

“With a [vocational training team], you also develop professional relationships between skilled individuals on both sides. The level of interpersonal engagement can’t be duplicated in another type of activity; the team members are not just colleagues but friends.”

Ron Smith, past governor of District 7430 (Pennsylvania)
