The Rockford Rotary Board had decided to try a modified meeting schedule for July and August rather than completely shutting down during those two months.  We will be meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of July and August at Memorial Hall at our regular time.  We will not be supplying lunches during these meetings so it will be a Bring Your Own Lunch (BYOL).  The program committee will be scheduling a speaker for each meeting so it will be like a regular meeting but with BYOL.  We will also be scheduling a social for each month so we will have some fun time also.  So, mark your calendars for July 10th, July 24th, August 14th, and August 28th and join us at Memorial Hall or via Zoom.

     Our regular weekly meetings will resume on September 4th. 

 

     Julie Bosma has over 30 years' experience in the non-profit sector and desires to see the community work together for the good of everyone.  She has her BA from Valparaiso University and her Master's in Public Administration from NIU.

     Julie is a Midwest girl having lived in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana.  She returned to Rockford in 1989 and is proud to call Northern Illinois her home (except in the winter when snow becomes a four-letter word for her).  She is grateful for the opportunity to serve at United Way and started in June of 2021.

     Julie joined Rockford Rotary in March of 2025 and has been active since joining.

     As the title implies, Julie will give the reasons why low literacy is a crisis and what we can do about it.  This will be an very informative program and one that you will want to bring a guest or prospective member.  Linda Johnson will introduce our presenter and act as Rotary Host.

     Our June 26th featured Lisa Bock and Diego Valdivia from the YWCA.  They discussed how far the YWCA has come in the last 20 years and how they have expanded into numerous areas like Immigration and Child Care Programs.

 

 

 

 

     Our Past President, Nancy Kalchbrenner, is going to be the 2025-26 President of the Rotary Club of Chicago, also known as Club #1 because they were the first Rotary Club.  Installation is July 31, 2025 at the Union League Club in Chicago.  A group of 10 Rotarians are planning to attend and travel together in a “party bus”. The bus leaves at 8 am and returns at approximately 5pm.  Cost of bus with 10 going is $96.

     Installation attendance requires registration which includes lunch. We are planning to be seated together. There are 4 seats still available on the bus.
