National Night Out is a evening of fun and games for families. The event is sponsored by the Neighborhood Network of Rockford. Volunteers are needed to help with the bounce house and bean bag toss. Additional volunteers are also needed for handing out hot dogs, snow cones and popcorn. The event will be at Dalhquist Park from 5-8 p.m. Dahlquist Park located behind Temple Baptist Church on State Street. Event will be rain or shine. The students are associated with the career pathway Architecture and Construction, which is part of the EMITT academy at Guilford High School, The EMITT academy has become Guilford's second-largest academy in two years. Property Tax Assessment Process

Winnebago County cover 520 sq. miles and had a population of 295,266 (2010) with 122,144 taxable parcels. The Supervisor of Assessments Office is responsible for the publication and mailing of Assessment Change Notices on all taxable parcels. The Office also maintains all records for Homestead Exemptions. They assist taxpayers with the filing of property tax exemptions and any questions they may have in the understanding the assessment process for their property. The Supervisor of Assessment Office also assists Township Assessors in the performance of their duties, as well assisting the Board in Review in completing their responsibilities to maintain a timely tax cycle.

Bob Vertiz, is a Lieutenant and EMS Training Coordinator at City of Rockford Illinois for the Rockford Fire Department Rotarian Dr. Jeff Smith is a Cardiac Electrophysiology specialist associated with Mercyhealth Rockford. They will present and train on the need and use of an AED and compression only CPR.

Ten Houses In Ten Days

Rotarians Pete and Becky Rundquist travelled to Hawaii to assist Habitat for Humanity build 10 houses in 10 Days. They will discuss the challenges of this effort, share their experiences in meeting other Habitiat volunteers, Rotary's support for the project, and working along side the families who will live the houses built during those 10 days. |

Specialty Screw has arranged for a tour of the facility on Thursday November 16th for our Rotary members beginning at 5:30 PM. Come learn about the processes that produces fasteners/components primarily for the automobile manufacturing industry, and the efforts for resource conservation that has garnered Specialty local, state and national awards. No open toed shoes allowed and high heels discouraged After the tour we will finish the evening at the Olympic for a meal and libations.

Victorian Christmas Traditions

Caitlin Treece will present various Victorian Christmas traditions as part of our annual Christmas program. She is currently the Museum Educator for Midway Village. Caitlin will be talking about various Victorian Christmas traditions and giving us a chance to learn about this glamorous time using 3-D objects rather than a slide show. Catlin attended Huron High School and graduated from Beloit College in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in History and Russian Language. In 2009, she received a Master of Arts in Local History and Museum Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to Midway Village, Caitlin worked at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI and the Macon County Conservation District in Mackinaw City in Michigan until November 2010. She then worked at the Carl and Mary Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, first as the Education Director and then as the Director prior to coming to Midway Village in March of 2016.

Home Rule for Rockford

Three of the four co-chairs (Bill Gorski, Bobbie Holzwarth, Rudy Valdez) will be presenting at the Jan 4 Rotary event. The co-chairs of the Our Decisions; Our Solutions Committee will present information on Home Rule. The presentation will range from defining Home Rule to examples of its pros/cons. It has been nearly 35 years since the Rockford voters have had the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to shift decision-making from the state to the local level. It is important to make an informed decision on the March 20, 2018 referendum. |
